University of South Carolina Beaufort opens new recreation complex
The University of South Carolina Beaufort has opened their new 22,500 Square Foot Recreation Center that featured two high school regulation basketball courts with one NCAA regulation court cross wise or two NCAA volleyball courts, a fitness center, and permanent offices for the athletic department. The gymnasium has a large clerestory translucent panel across the entire north face letting in natural light and saving costs on lighting in the long run. The fitness area has a rubberized floor with heavy weight machinery, an aerobics room, and a physical therapy center.
The front of the building is an impressive mix of old Savannah grey brick, stucco, metal panels walls and a custom transparent awning.
The project was designed by FWA architects and built by Fraser Construction. The gymnasium piece is a preengineered metal building designed through Butler Manufacturing.
