5-Minute Interview with Sylvester Brockington on the Beaufort County Courthouse

Fraser Construction is currently in the throes of the Beaufort County Courthouse renovation. Here is a five-minute interview with Superintendent Sylvester Brockington on that project.

What is your role in the project?

SB:  I’m the superintendent in charge of the exterior and vertical walls. I’m working with two other superintendents, Wayne Gray and Mike Abendshein, who are overseeing the interior.

Lady's Island - St. Helena Fire District Breaks Ground

Yesterday the Lady's Island Fire District had a ground breaking ceremony. Fire Marshal Scott Baldwin gave a rousing speach. Chief Bruce Kline unveiled the details of the 12,000 SF station at 146 Lady's Island Drive that replaces the 8,000 SF station on Sea Island Parkway. The project is $3.4 Million, paid for by bonds.

Students Move Into New USC Beaufort Dorm

The University of South Carolina Beaufort's New River Campus has a newly completed 96 bedroom dormitory, adding a third upper classmen hall two the six dorms already in the Palmetto Village. This past Sunday, the dormitories, parking lots, and quads were packed with new students and parents arriving for the 2013-2014 school year.

Reporter Brittany Shane with WSAV news 3 was on site and did a news segment on the buzz of activity titled USCB Moves-in Record Number of Students.

Fraser Construction completed broke ground on the newest dorm, Chechessee River, in late December 2012 and completed the project July 5th. We then proceeded to assist with structural repairs to other dorms for the Facilities department through the rest of the summer. 

Station 30 Open House

Bluffton's newest fire station is nearing completion. From the outside, the building has an impressive cast stone signage over the apparatus bays and fresh landscaping. The fire department has scheduled an open house for the new station on August 6th at 10:00 am.

Its a busy week at Sea Pines

This week, the golf world's eyes turn to Sea Pines Plantation for the RBC Heritage Golf tournament. The attention has spotlighted the ongoing and future construction projects in Sea Pines. Fraser Construction currently is remodeling the Sea Pines Plantation Golf Club and plans to rebuild the Sea Pines beach club later this year.

The Plantation club is a new $15 million two story building that serves the Ocean Course and Pete Dye-designed Heron Point course. The old clubhouse has been torn down, and a new one is scheduled for completion in 2014. It is currently in the concrete structural phase (Pictured Above), with concrete pours being scheduled around tournament traffic.

The Beach club is a new $10 million renovation that will include an indoor restaurant and bar, an open-air beach bar; second-floor space for private receptions and parties, retail and office space, and expanded restrooms, showers and changing rooms. The club will replace the current oceanside club built more than 40 years ago. Work is scheduled to begin this fall and will be completed before year's end.

Our more recently completed medical office fit-out and the newest tenant to our Westbury Park complex, Dynamic Dentistry, performed a ribbon cutting at their office on January 31st.

King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort renovates historic ballrooms

This winter, Fraser Construction has been renovating the historic ballrooms of the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort, St. Simmons Island, for MMI hotel group. The highlight of the renovation is adding a grand design of ornate wood reveals on the ceiling of the Delegal dining room and an ornamental wood check in desk. On February 6th, the Brunswick News interviewed Micheal Johnson, the General Manager on the Hotel, on the progress. In the words of Johnson, "We're restoring the hotel to where it was back in the '40's and '50's.

Bluffton Outpatient Center Breaks Ground

The Bluffton Outpatient Center recently broke ground with a ceremony on January 11th. The outpatient center is a 60,000 square foot facility in the Public Belfair Plaza in Bluffton. It will include Women's health services, diagnostic imaging, occupational speech therapy services, doctor’s offices, x-ray equipment, hyperbaric treatments, lab services, and more.

The ground-breaking ceremony was held on Tuesday, January 15th, with speeches and appearances by Mark O’neal, president of Hilton Head Regional Healthcare and Town of Bluffton Mayor Lisa Sulka.

Lady's Island Fire Issuing Bonds to get under way

Station 300 is one of the recipients of Best New Exterior in the 28th Annual Bowling Architecture & Design Awards. The project was designed by Court Atkins and Built by Fraser Construction and many of our local subcontractors. Congratulations to all that helped.
